Voices of Birralee's 2019 Europe Tour was the last of our tours associated with our five year commitment to the Department of Veterans' Affairs for their Anzac centenary commemorations. The tour culminated with the performance at the Australian National Memorial in Villers-Bretonneux, France on Anzac Day.
Surrounding the commitment, 72 choristers from the Birralee Blokes and Brisbane Birralee Voices ventured across five countries. The tour began in Graz, Austria where the choirs joined with two local choirs to perform a concert and workshops together as well as singing at a Mayoral Civic Reception. Next it was off to Zagreb to perform with the Carobna Frula choir and the Adamovec Tamboura Orchestra. The coastal town of Opatjia was the next stop to perform alongside choirs from many parts of the world in the 'We are singing Adriatic Festival'. This festival included performances, massed choir rehearsals and concluded with a stunning concert in the Postojna caves, in Slovenia. After a brief tourist sojourn in Venice it was on to Paris where the choir sang at the Lighting of the Flame Ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris before heading to the Western Front where the choir performed in Vignacourt, Allonville and Villers-Bretonneux in addition to the Anzac ceremony at the Australian National Memorial.
