Join us for a memorable musical occasion as we farewell Brisbane Birralee Voices on their 2014 tour where they will compete in the 13th International Choir Competition in Riva del Garda, Italy.
Workshop for Singers, Conductors and Music TeachersWhen: 4:00-6:00pm Monday 24 March 2014 Where: 57 Carwoola Street, Bardon - Voices of Birralee HQCost: $77 pp (GST inc) Su Hart is a trained singers and teacher who performs who performs music inspired by the music of the Baka with the internationally renowned Baka Beyond, the group that she founded with Martin Cradick in the mid nineties .When she is not performing or recording, she leads workshops on the culture and music of the Baka in schools, choirs and community settings all over the world. Su comes highly recommended from Mark O’Leary (Young Voices of Melbourne) She will spend time singing songs rich in rhythm, creating complex sounds out of simple structures and learning about the context in which they are sung. You will go home with songs and singing games suitable for using with groups of all ages which:• give participants the experience of harmony and interlocking singing where every voice is important• develop rhythm and movement skills through clapping and body movement in song• encourage improvisation, creativity and songwriting• relax the participants into a space which feels safe to explore the voiceDiscussion topics will include• techniques for creating a session where everyone joins in and gains• structuring a session• the importance of singing as a social tool for the Baka and in this culture• the role of the singing leader Su returns to the forest on a regular basis, learning new material from source. Royalties are returned to the Baka from recordings and workshops through the charity Global Music Exchange for projects the Baka decide themselves. She is highly respected internationally as a charismatic, engaging and inspiring workshop leader with a passion for encouraging people to develop their innate vocal and rhythmic skills.
