Western Front Centenary Choir - July 2018

Voices of Birralee's Western Front Centenary Choir (for the Battle of Hamel), will tour France in June - July involving 15 choristers.

The Centenary of the Battle of Hamel on 4 July will remember an impactful 93 minute all-arms (tanks, aircraft, artillery and machine guns) attack against the Germans in Hamel, near Amiens, south of the River Somme. The battle, where Australian Corps Commander Lieutenant General John Monash led three Australian infantry brigades (the 4th, 6th and 11th) along with British and American soldiers, proved a turning point for an allied victory in WW1.

This tour is a part of Voices of Birralee’s five-year commitment to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs where the organisation continues to provide choristers to sing at Anzac Day at the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux and centenary commemorations at memorials in France and Belgium. Follow the choir from home via the daily blog (shared here).
